Former site of the MSU Department of Agricultural Chemistry

Location: East Lansing, MI, USA

You are now standing south of a parking lot between the Natural Science and Agricultural buildings. MSU is a continually evolving campus and buildings are replaced as needs and technologies change. This was the site of the Food Science Laboratory Building (later to be the Soil Science Building), which housed the Department of Agricultural Chemistry. The DDT testing on robins in the early 1960s was carried out in room 209 of the now-demolished building, by Wallace and his students. The most definitive results were those published in a paper by Wallace, Nickell & Bernard in 1961, and summarized later by Richard Bernard in a 1966 article. Both of these papers are available for reading at the MSU Museum.

Walk towards Agriculture Hall, the large red brick building to the west.
